The Berkley Public Safety Department Public Relations Unit will be hosting our 5th Annual Golf outing on Friday May 17, 2013 at Rackham Golf Course in Huntington Woods.  All proceeds from this outing will directly benefit our Community.  Each year, the Public Relation Unit hosts theBerkley “Lids for Kids” and Fire Prevention Open House. From your support, over the last 4 years, we have provided over 1,500 Helmets to children in our area.  In addition, we have had the opportunity to teach hundreds fire safety tips at our Open House.  This year we are including our newly formed “Honor Guard” to serve at ceremonies for fallen Police Officers or Fire Fighters across the state.

The program is a clear presentation of the most cutting edge research into the dynamics of human behavior during life-threatening encounters. We will explore the scientific principles and processes of suspect provocation and officer response. Apply the concepts revealed in research when investigating, reconstructing, recalling or otherwise analyzing use of force. The Force Science Institute uses sophisticated time-motion measurements to document critical hidden truths about the physical and mental dynamics of life-threatening events, particularly  office involved shootings.

  • Introduction: The problem with misunderstood police shootings
  • Enhance investigations through understanding survival challenges: Action and reaction offender behaviors, reactionary shortcuts, interaction/comparison
  • Understanding the limits of human perception under stress: Vision, Attention, “the London Study,” training and investigations
  • Controversial case study: Synchronous shots, execution shots, extra shots, unintentional discharges, “unarmed” victims
  • Facilitation of emotional recovery,  working with an officer following a shooting.
